Who can become an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)
To become an ADI, you must meet the following criteria.
· Be over 21.
· Held a full driving licence for 3 years.
· Less than 6 penalty points.
· Not been banned in the last 4 years
· Also, may be refused if convicted of non-motoring offences.

Benefits of become a Driving Instructor
Flexibility – As a driving instructor you would work for yourself be your own boss. You would be self employed and you can choose when and how much you work. You can choose to not work weekends not work certain days and work round family and social commitments and appointments.
Earnings – easy to achieve weekly earnings in excess of £1000 before expenses. If you work 35 teaching hours at £32 per hour that is £1120. (The current rates are higher than £32)
Complete your Driving instructor training Around your current employment – no need to quit your current job (you may need to take some days off)

The first thing that you need to do is apply for a new DBS even if you already have one this is done via
this only costs £8.22 via the gov.uk site once you have received this back and have your reference number you can apply to DVSA to become a driving instructor. Once this is approved its time to start your driving instructor training.
The Training
The training to become a driving instructor is split into 3 parts.
Part 1 - The theory test
The theory test is split into 2 parts.
1. 100 multiple choice questions in which you need to answer 85 correctly to pass.
2. Hazard perception you will be shown 14 clips from a driver perspective. There will be one developing hazard you must identify the sooner you do the higher the score each hazard is worth 5 points. But one clip has 2 hazards and is worth points. You must score 57 out of 75.
For this you will have access to online learning to revise for and support from us throughout your training
Part 2 Driving ability test
After passing the part one you will move on to the part 2, this is essentially doing your driving test again this test you will
You will receive 8 hours of in car training to support you in this.
Part 3 the instructional ability test
Before taking this test you will undertake 40 hours training to learn how to impart the knowledge to the student. This will be completed over the course of a number of weeks and can be split into 4-8 hour sessions. After completing this you will have the option to apply to become a potential driving instructor (PDI) on a trainee licence. (When doing this you have to take an additional 20 hours training) This allows you to get out into the world, teach real pupils, and practice what you have learnt prior to taking the part 3 test.
The part 3 test take the form of you delivering a lesson to a real pupil whilst being assessed by an examiner. Once this is passed you apply for you ADI badge and then you are all set
